Dear customers,
Please see the below update from NZ Post regarding parcel deliveries:
We would like to provide a further update regarding parcel delays we have experienced since entering Alert Level 3. During the first 2 weeks of Alert Level 3, NZ Post received a record 3.5 million parcels, of which 3.2 million have now been delivered. At this time of year, we’d normally receive around 900,000 parcels per week.
In recent weeks we have continued to implement changes to increase our delivery capacity and we are now exceeding 320,000 deliveries daily. This means that we are now delivering more parcels than we are receiving, and we expect this to improve further as our delivery capacity continues to increase and physical retail stores open giving people more choice on where to buy.
Under normal circumstances our network is designed to move parcels from one point to another as quickly as possible. We typically don’t store any parcels and backlogs clear naturally within a few days. As a result, we needed to rapidly make significant changes to allow us to hold any parcels we were unable to deliver. This enabled us to continue to accept parcels from customers, to help clear their distribution centres.
We have been prioritising the delivery of older parcels, however in making these changes it has not been possible to maintain an optimal flow of parcels in all parts of our network. We are still delivering a large number of parcels within 3 days, but unfortunately some parcels are taking significantly longer, and we have seen delays of up to 2 weeks with the Auckland and Waikato regions most impacted, in particular the North Shore and West Auckland.
We have identified 150,000 parcels currently in our network which are overdue by more than 10 days, and we are working urgently to process and deliver these within the next week. We will also continue to enable our network to flow with current parcel volumes and deliver high priority items.
I would like to sincerely apologise for any delays you have experienced. You have been incredibly patient and kind, thank you. Please know that our people are doing everything they can to keep things moving and get these parcels cleared and to you and your customers as soon as possible.
