You may be aware that there is a growing global spread of Marmorated Stink Bug, which has given grave concerns for MPI and the NZ Agriculture industry, over this insect gaining a foothold here.

There were special processes in place for USA imported cargo, but the Bug has now been discovered in cargo from Europe, and Japan.

Last week, MPI discovered an infestation in vehicles arriving into NZ on a Car Carrier. MPI ordered all vehicles to be returned to the vessel, and the vessel sent away fully loaded.

It is unclear whether the source of infestation was from used vehicles, or brand new vehicles ex Japan, and MPI has made no statements so far that we know of.

On this occasion, Autohub had no vehicles on board, but we take this matter extremely seriously, and are in discussion with Officials, and Service Providers in order to mitigate future risk.

The effects, delays, and expenses of MPI refusing entry of an infested vessel, and sending cargo back offshore are huge, and consequently Autohub will actively engage and assist with parties involved to minimise risks, delays and losses to our customers.

We will keep you informed as information comes to hand.
