Re: Parallel imported Vehicles into Japan
We have just been advised by companies doing Odometer verification in Japan that they may elect not to carry out this check on “parallel imported” vehicles into Japan.
There is much difficulty in verifying the odometer readings prior to a used vehicle being parallel imported into Japan, and now consider these vehicles high risk.
These vehicles often do not go through full Japanese Type Approval, and will therefore not have a “Japanese model code”, TDN and variant number recorded. They may also have a new chassis/VIN number allocated by the Japanese authorities (as shown below) at the time of entry.
Please exercise caution when looking to purchase/import such a vehicle into NZ as you may risk having problems post sale.
