Updating you on the current situation at Ports of Auckland – there are 6 ships scheduled to arrive between now and June 8th. Once again, this will put great pressure on the port facilities to handle discharge, find space to park them and then the transporter co’s to get them off the Port. Meeting with Port officials yesterday, they have estimated they will be at 68% overcapacity for most of the month (that is there are 5500 parking slots normally and they estimate having up to 9900 cars on port on average during the month). They are looking at a number of bottlenecks identified and will address as soon as possible, but the obvious fact is that they do not have enough space to cater for the number of cars arriving at present.
Volumes of new car arrivals are exceptionally high also and this only adds to the problems of getting your cars discharged and delivered. Transporter Co’s are currently struggling to get trucks on the wharf as there is reduced space to park them for loading. Delays in discharging in Auckland are also affecting down-country deliveries and some transhipping connections, so this is in effect becoming a national problem…
Once again, we ask for your patience. We are doing all we can to keep the wheels turning and get your vehicles to you as soon as possible.
