We have just had confirmation from Toyofuji (see below) that MPI have not allowed Sepang Express v44 to discharge even after Thermo-fogging.
Sepang Express v44 must now go out of New Zealand Territorial waters and have Sulfuryl Fluoride fumigation done, with a certificate shown to MPI to be able to berth back in NZ ports.
As Sulfuryl Fluoride and Methyl Bromide treatment is prohibited in Japan this treatment is unavailable at port of origin.
There is an industry meeting with all parties involved at Auckland Port tomorrow in which Autohub will be in attendance so we will keep you up to date as soon as possible.
We appreciate your understanding.
Kind Regards,
Autohub Team
Good afternoon Valued Customers,
Under the newly implemented MPI directive for PCC vessels loaded with vehicles/ machinery ex Japan – the Sepang Express Voyage 44 was allowed to berth on arrival at the Auckland wharf.
- MPI Officers conducted an initial inspection of the cargo on all decks.
- Under MPI instructions the vessel was “thermo-fogged” to agitate any insect contamination from the cargo.
- After waiting the advised venting time of 6-9 hours
- MPI Officers conducted a second inspection of the cargo on all decks this morning.
After following the above directives, MPI has advised live Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSB) were detected onboard the Sepang Express and Toyofuji Shipping have officially been advised this vessel must leave New Zealand territorial waters and undertake a fumigation treatment with Sulfuryl Fluoride that kills BMSB but is currently unavailable to be administered in New Zealand.
Toyofuji Shipping will be seeking the best location for our vessel Sepang Express to be treated off-shore so the vessel can return and discharge its vehicles in New Zealand.
We will be informing all our customers on further updates and the expected return date of your cargo onboard this vessel.
We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding of this difficult situation.
Best regards
