NZTA has confirmed a broadening of Takata Airbag open recalls to be addressed before importation.

NZTA have advised that from November 1st 2018, ALL Takata airbag open recall status will be checked by Border Inspection agents as part of the NZTA border inspection process. Any vehicles found to have open Takata Airbag recalls by Border Inspection Organisations will incur a Damage Flag noting the “Open Recall’

It would be practical that any vehicles subject to Alpha AND non-Alpha Takata airbag open recalls are addressed and the recall closed out by the manufacturer agent in the source market prior to being shipped to NZ. We strongly suggest you discuss this with your vehicle supplier/s to ensure all such recalls are satisfactorily addressed prior to booking for export so as not to incur a Damage Flag, or added costs or delays upon arrival.
